New Holt Commercial Recruit Fulfils 10-year Ambition

Coventry-based Holt Commercial has helped a South Africa property expert achieve his decade-long ambition of living and working in the UK commercial property sector.

Tim Skeen joins the Coventry firm as a Management Surveyor as part of the company’s expansion, after leaving City Property Administration in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The move to the UK will see Tim achieve a long-standing career ambition of his, having almost moved to the UK ten years ago before meeting his wife-to-be in his native South Africa.

Tim describes the chance to join Holt Commercial as the “right opportunity at the right time”, adding: “My family on my mum’s side is from the UK – my grandfather made the opposite move 52 years ago on a boat down to South Africa – and I’ve always wanted to come here.

The city of Coventry and its fellow West Midlands city, Birmingham, are currently enduring a mixed period with firms reporting stalling commercial property investment, while others are looking to capitalise on the Brexit uncertainty.

Despite the reports, Tim has remained upbeat, stating “the [Coventry] property market is strong.” and is now acquainting himself with some of the different legal aspects of his role compared to his work in South Africa.

Commenting on the nuances, Tim said: It’s very similar in most of the processes and practices, but there are nuances, and that is mainly around the differences in the law. That means you have to alter your processes in order to comply.”

Also joining Tim as the firm’s newest recruit will be Lynette Eccles who will operate in the administrative team.

Nick Holt, director of Holt Commercial, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Tim and Lynette to the company, during a period of growth for the business.

“We have enjoyed a very strong 18 months and growing our team reflects that success.”
