Commercial property developers Moolman Group are aiming to forever change the shopping landscape of Randburg with the development of their ‘Ferndale on Republic’ shopping mall.
Located on the existing site of Brightwater Commons mall, the Gauteng province development represents a complete overhaul of the previous mall, with a key focus on ‘community’.
Commenting on what the new mall aims to deliver, Pieter Lombard, CEO of Moolman Group said: “This project, in contrast to previous endeavours, is a complete redevelopment which focusses, amongst others, on community.
The new Ferndale on Republic is almost unrecognisable; totally repositioned to benefit retailers and shoppers alike, and managed with attention to detail.”
Development of the c.53,000 m² mixed-use development has been undertaken by the partnership of Moolman Group, PHG Group and Braam van Huyssteen who have set aside approximately 23,000 m² of the gross lettable area for the shopping centre.
In addition to the shopping mall, a further 12,000 m² has been dedicated to office and studio space for ‘Urban Brew Studios’, who are part of one of South Africa’s most respected television companies Kagiso Media Group, creators of The Voice SA and Idols SA amongst others.
Urban Brew Studios’ new trendy offices will include space for ten television production studios as well as dedicated audio post-production and music facilities.
Ferndale on Republic has had a staggered launch this year, with phase one opening as early as March, before being followed by the ‘Food Lover’s Market’ in July. The remaining sections of the shopping centre (including restaurants and additional retail stores) launched in August.
More than 90 stores will be hosted at Ferndale on Republic including Pick n Pay and Checkers, as well as international brands such as Quiksilver and many, many more.
