Three employees at one of the Midlands’ leading construction contractors MCS Group are celebrating after achieving first-class honours degrees
Dave Crawford, Jack Tollett and Joe Bishop all took time out from their busy day jobs at MCS to study for property-related degrees and passed with flying colours.
MCS Group Managing director Keir Edmonds championed their success, stating: “We [MCS] are passionate about giving our team every opportunity to progress their careers, and improving qualifications is a key element.
“Dave, Jack and Joe have set a great example to others. They have worked extremely hard to combine their day jobs with their studies, and have got the rewards they deserve.”
Dave Crawford is a Senior Commercial Manager who has worked on a range of significant projects at MCS including a £12 million Jaguar Land Rover dealership for Sytner in Northampton amongst many others.
Crawford, who recently achieved a BSC (Hons) in Quantity Surveying at Birmingham City University (BCU) said: “I first started my degree 15 years ago, but due to work commitments I didn’t complete the final year. Last year I decided to re-enrol and undertook 18 months’ intensive study, coursework and exams to achieve a first-class degree.
“I think that it has set an example to other staff in terms of personal training. I’ve also enrolled with RICS in order to increase my own and the company’s profile. I was given time off for study and exams, and they paid the university fees. The support from MCS Group has been superb.”
Jack Tollett is an Assistant Commercial Manager who achieved a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying at the University of Wolverhampton; joining the firm three years ago, Jack worked on a series of car dealership projects for the firm.
Fellow Assistant Commercial Manager Joe Bishop is the newest of ‘The Three Degrees’ having joined the group only a year ago.
Commenting on his career thus far and his completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying at BCU, Joe said: “Since my move to MCS Group last year they have offered complete support throughout my studies, with a wide variety of different colleagues offering me advice on coursework in my final year.
“Working on a variety of projects gave me a larger insight into construction methodology and helped me relate university topics to real-life situations. The competitive nature with Dave and Jack gave us all an added incentive to achieve first-class honours.”
MCS Group is building a reputation as one of the industrial and warehouse sector’s leading construction companies; the firm has also developed and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships including Audi, BMW, McLaren, Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover since its inception in 2003.
