A West Midlands-based construction company is celebrating its biggest retail contract on record, after securing a multi-million-pound deal to modernise an intu shopping mall.
Founded in 2002, the large, multi-office mac-group secured a £12 million deal for intu’s Merry Mill shopping centre in Brierley Hill.
Ray O’Sullivan (pictured), Director at mac-group, said: “intu Merry Hill is a prime retail destination for the region and we’re delighted to have been appointed for the first time by Intu to transform the exterior of the shopping centre. It promises to be an extremely impressive finish, with discreet lighting hidden within the cladding, which will create a superb visual display, especially at night.”
Work has already begun on the first phase of the modernisation project with the contractor replacing outdated classing at the Debenmehams entrance of Merry Hill.
The rejuvenation project will see mac-group implement a series of new additions, including LED feature lighting and large media screens.
The final section of the works will consist of an upgrade of the areas around the Primark and Sports Direct stores which will create a ‘visual impact’ with projections such as diamond and pyramids carved into the cladding to provide an ‘impactful’ finish.
Nick Round, regional centre director at intu Merry Hill, said: “We’ve seen a record number of retailers invest in new or larger spaces at intu Merry Hill over the last 12 months, allowing us to offer an even better experience for local customers and those based further afield.
“The £12million renovation is just one of the ways we’re planning to give back to our shoppers. Our long-term plan is to attract even more great brands to our mall, and this redevelopment is just one of the ways we can achieve that.”
The modernisation programme in its entirety is due to be completed in Q3 2020.
