It has been announced the biggest out of town retail development in the last 20 years, named Axiom will be located near the town of Castleford, Yorkshire and is due to open in 2021.
What is unique about the 106-acre development is that it will include a 10,000 seat stadium for the local rugby league club, the Castleford Tigers, as well as featuring more than 75 retail and restaurant units totalling 600,000 sq ft and a 40-acre country park.
It is expected that the retail development will create more than 2,000 new jobs, helping boost the regional economy.
Some of the already confirmed retailers coming to Axiom include Marks & Spencer, Primark, Next and Boots. Lateral Property Group has been appointed to deliver the development, in partnership with Highgrove Group.
Lateral Property Group’s co-founder, Philip Lunn, commented:
“We believe that the technology-led shopping and leisure proposition offered by Axiom, alongside Junction 32 Outlet and Xscape, will make this a highly attractive regional destination. The scale of Axiom means that we have the space and flexibility to draw from the best retail and leisure innovations from around the world and curate them in one place.”
Retail analysts, CACI expect that Axiom will enter a top 40 retail and leisure destination in the UK once established. Furthermore, CBRE predicts the combined value of Axiom, Junction 32 and Axiom will exceed £1 billion.
