Kajima Partnerships Hires New Managing Director

International developer and investor, Kajima Partnerships, has today announced the appointment of a new Managing Director for the Irish property sector.

Kajima Ireland, who are a division of Kajima Partnerships and Part of one of Japan’s oldest construction firms, Kajima Construction – revealed the appointment of Irish property sector veteran Dwayne McAleer earlier today.

Bringing three decades of experience in the Irish property industry, McAleer will be responsible for leading Kajima’s activity in the financing and development project of Ireland’s healthcare and affordable housing sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Dwayne McAleer (pictured right), Managing Director at Kajima Ireland, said: “I am delighted to be joining Kajima and look forward to strengthening its Irish operations and growing the team here. Kajima has a wealth of international experience and expertise in social infrastructure and a well-deserved reputation for delivering high-quality projects in tandem with public and private partners.

“Part of my role is also to help build up the funding capacity in the market, which already includes many established institutions, to further enhance deal flow. I have no doubt that this new base for Kajima Partnerships will have a transformative impact on the Irish market.”

There is a shortage of social and affordable housing across Ireland with reports from the Central Bank and Economic and Social Research Institute agreeing that 30,000 new homes are required annually to meet the needs of a growing population in the Republic (of Ireland) alone.

Kajima Ireland has called the appointment of McAleer ‘timely’ as it aligns with several ongoing projects across the country, including the continued construction during the pandemic of both the Second PPP Social Housing Bundle and the new Community Treatment and Care Centre in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

Located in Dublin, McAleer is a former senior executive of Ireland’s National Development Finance Agency and more recently the Land Development Agency.

Recent projects overseen by McAleer include the progression of the Shanganagh development in Dublin -Ireland’s first large-scale residential development consisting of 100% social and affordable Build to Rent properties.

McAleer is also a Chartered Civil Engineer with an MBA in Construction & Real Estate with Distinction. Throughout his career McAleer has successfully developed a significant programme of regional sites in Ireland on a bundled basis and has international experience operating in private consultancy, specialising in feasibility and viability analysis.

Kirk Taylor, Managing Director at Kajima Partnerships, comments: “We are delighted to have Dwayne join Kajima Partnerships and leading the positive impact we hope to have on the property sector in Ireland. With a record of successful PPP and Third-Party Developer projects in the country, we are now increasing our focus on both public and private developments and investment in Ireland’s healthcare and residential sectors.”
