Commercial People has learned that the supermarket chain Checkers has successfully launched its new delivery app across all nine South African provinces.
Owned by Africa’s biggest food retail group, Shoprite Holdings, Checkers’ innovative Sixty60 mobile app aims to offer over delivery of groceries and over 15,000 products within 60 minutes.
The service launched yesterday in Polokwane, Limpopo, and within the last three months, has rolled out to over 40 new areas, including Klerksdorp (North West province), Kimberley and Upington (Northern Cape).
Commenting on the launch Neil Schreuder, Chief of Strategy and Innovation at Shoprite Group said: “We are now pleased to say we are available nationally. The on-demand delivery service has proved very popular and is bringing frictionless shopping to more people in every single province.
“Our award-winning service has created more than 2,100 jobs since we launched and has remained South Africa’s fastest and cheapest delivery service.”
Checkers’ Sixty60 charges a fee of R35 for delivery, and is South Africa’s fastest and cheapest on-demand grocery delivery service.
Sixty60 has proven nationally popular, becoming the number one grocery shopping app in the country with over 1.4 million app downloads.
